Does my insurance cover this test?

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has indicated that COVID-19 tests must be covered by insurers and health plans when the test is ordered by an attending health care provider who has determined that the test is medically appropriate for the individual based on current accepted standards of medical practice and the test otherwise meets the statutory criteria in section 6001(a)(1) of the FFCRA. Consistent with section 6001 of the FFCRA, this coverage must be provided without imposing any cost-sharing requirements, prior authorization, or other medical management requirements. All Nytingale COVID-19 tests are ordered by healthcare providers (NP, PA, DO, or MD) licensed to practice medicine in the US. If your test is not medically appropriate, insurances will vary on payment. It is best to contact them directly to determine eligibility or use Reimbursify on our website. Based on the CARES Act, if the test is medically appropriate per CDC guidelines, it should be covered by insurance without copay or any cost sharing for the time being. This can change quickly based on the pandemic state of emergency and individual insurance companies. Therefore, it may be prudent to check with your insurance carrier.

When will results be available and where?

Results of your test will be available typically within 24 hours after receipt by lab. You may view results through your account here or through Nytingale Virtual Urgent Care (our parent company). Your sample cannot be returned on a weekend and your kit cannot be delivered on a Sunday thus increasing the wait for your results Please keep this in mind with ordering and shipping back to lab.

What does this test measure?

This test measures the absence or presence of RNA from SARS-CoV-2 Virus to determine if you have an active infection. Positive=You are actively infected and can spread the virus even if you do not have symptoms. Negative=You never had or no longer have an active infection and are NOT contagious. Inconclusive (Rarely Occurs)=Need retested and should be considered actively infected until proven otherwise by another test.

Does this test show immunity?

No. To measure a state of immunity you would need to measure the antibodies in your blood. This is not an antibody test. However, we do offer that here.

How is this test performed/collected?

This test is a sputum/saliva test. The patient (test taker) will spit 2 to 3 ml of saliva and/or sputum into a sterile cup under guidance of a healthcare provider through a telemedicine video visit. The telemedicine video visit is typically less than 10 minutes. The patient will then package specimen per instructions in return package via FedEx dropbox. You can find a the closest dropbox here.

Can this test be used to meet travel requirements?

We recommend that you reach out to your destination’s government for their specific requirements and timelines before making your purchase. While we are not able to provide an exact estimate of when you will receive your results, keep in mind the typical turnaround time for results is less than 48 hours and usually 24 hours.
